Rainwater tanks help save water, money on your water bills and reduce demand on Sydney’s water supply. They also help minimize flooding by reducing the amount of storm water leaving your property. Please contact Plumbing Patrol to discuss your rainwater tank requirements and options, including the available rebate via the NSW government.

For your consideration below are a few useful points:

Usage. Rainwater can be used safely for activities such as watering the garden and lawn, washing the car and topping up swimming pools. When correctly installed with pipe work and pump, it is possible to use the tank water for toilet flushing and laundry use. Generally rainwater is not recommended for drinking, bathing or cooking purposes.

Design. Your tank style and design will depend on your budget, roof size, the storage area on your land, rainfall in your area and the volume of water you want to use. Tanks are available in a variety of different materials such as galvanized steel, colourbond, polyethylene, and fiberglass.

Capacity.
As a general guide the minimum requirements are:
* Toilet flushing or watering a small gardening: a minimum storage capacity of 2000 litres
* Internal & external use such as flushing toilets, washing machines, watering gardens, washing cars.

To be eligible for a rebate from Sydney water tanks must have a capacity of 2000 litres or greater and have been purchase on or after 20 October 2002. The rebate can only be applied for once the tanks has been installed by a licensed plumber.

The rebate is based on the size of the tank and whether the rainwater tank is plumbed into your toilet or washing machine.
