Maintenance and repairs

At Plumbing Patrol we are conscious that in most households we only tend to pay attention to the plumbing when there is either an emergency such as a burst pipe or something is causing inconvenience such as a leaking tap or a blocked toilet.

We believe that you can play an important role in minimizing home repairs whilst on other occasions you are better off calling a reliable plumber. We recommend all our clients to be proactive and keep a watchful eye for early signs that may indicate that there is a problem like persistent dampness in a specific area, paint peeling off the walls, a shower that floods after regular use, rotting floorboards. Early detection and maintenance can save you from dealing with a bigger and more expensive problem later.

Washer replacement is a simple example of a small job that if ignored can become a real nuisance overtime. Who hasn’t lost sleep over a dripping tap or a rattling pipe?

Check for leak signs and get them fixed right away - a leaking toilet can waste up to 95,000 litres of water a year. It's definitely worth replacing an old water-guzzling showerhead with a water saving model. They're inexpensive, there's a huge range available, and they will save the average household around $100 in water and energy each year.

Most will agree that a blocked toilet can easily turn into real-life nightmare. In some case you may consider replacing a toilet rather than fixing it. It may imply a higher up front cost, it is  however worth it if you have an older inefficient model, particularly if it's single flush.

Save at least 15,000 litres of water a year by choosing an efficient 4-star model; there are many stylish options to choose from that range significantly in pricing to suit every budget.

Another classic example is having a dreadful sewer smell lingering over your clean home. Everyone can smell it but no one seem to be able to identify the source!

Pour clean water in the bathroom and laundry’s floor waste. If the floor waste is completely dry the sewer smell can sometimes travel up and into your home. Most of the times clean water traps and stops that unpleasant smell. If the problem persist you need to call the plumber to get the drains inspected.

What about that shower leak?

In many, many instances what appears to be a leak in the shower is as a matter of fact attributable to a poor water proofing job. After prolonged use water permeates through the water proofing membrane causing all sorts of problems to ceilings, walls, floorings etc. Ensure that a quality product is properly applied to the shower area by a professional. Remember that water that has penetrated the water proofing membrane can take a while to dry completely even after repairs have been completed. How long? it all depends how much water filtered through in the first place.

A gas leak cannot only be unpleasant but a real hazard if left unattended. Ensure that all gas connections are carried out and serviced by a licensed plumber.

Water filters can be real winners at home or in the office as they provide clean tap water with fluoride benefits whilst also getting rid off some unwanted nasties. They are easy to operate and a cost effective alternative to bottled water. They also help reduce the number of water bottles that get disposed every year.
