Hot water systems come in two main types, instantaneous and storage. Both can be suitable for most households, although there are restrictions on the installation of gas hot water systems indoors.
 

 

 

A rebate is available from the NSW government for new gas, solar or heat pump hot water systems that replace an electric system. The rebate is worth $300 for a gas hot water system with a 5-star or higher energy rating and up to $1200 for a solar or heat pump hot water systems.

To be eligible for a rebate the new hot water systems must be:

Hot water systems installed to comply with BASIX (the Building Sustainability Index) for new homes and major renovations are not eligible for a rebate.
